Destination Overview

Meghalaya is a picturesque state in northeastern India, often called the “Abode of Clouds” due to its frequent rainfall and mist-covered hills. Bordered by Assam and Bangladesh, it is known for its rolling plateaus, deep valleys, living root bridges, and some of the wettest places on Earth, such as Cherrapunji and Mawsynram. The state is home to diverse indigenous tribes, mainly the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities, each with distinct languages, traditions, and matrilineal social systems. Meghalaya’s economy is largely based on agriculture, horticulture, and tourism, with natural attractions like waterfalls, caves, rivers, and rich biodiversity drawing visitors from around the world, while Shillong, the capital city, serves as a cultural and educational hub of the region.
